DIALECTICAL BEHAVIORAL THERAPY
Dialectical Behavioral Therapy is an innovative treatment available for adults and adolescents who have difficulty regulating their emotions and behaviors. DBT combines proven therapy techniques and skill-building practices and has proven to be highly effective in helping adults and adolescents manage intense emotions and self-harming behaviors including: self-harm, suicidal ideation, substance abuse, anger problems and Depression. DBT is a modified form of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), that was developed in late 1980s by Marsha M. Linehan. DBT focuses on teaching individuals the behavioral skills of mindfulness, emotion regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness. This approach works towards helping people increase their emotional and cognitive regulation by learning about the triggers that lead to reactive states and helping to assess which coping skills to apply in the sequence of events, thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. The goal of DBT is to help both adults and adolescents replace problem behaviors with more adaptive ways of coping with distress so as to improve the client’s quality of life and to live a more fulfilling and purposeful life.
Monica was Intensively trained through Behavioral Tech, LLC, Marsha Linehan’s training institute. This model can be adapted for many problems and when working with Monica, she will tailor treatments specific to your needs.
